I don't care what you think, I got tired of trying to sooth your fears. Anyone with brains will deduce that I have zero dedication to this since the only thing I gain from this is thanks which makes me happy and does motivate me. Furthermore, I started at 200 so as to not coincide with Thyaeria to begin with.
3. I am not looking to stir some pot as evident from 1 and 2. I have better things to do in life than to be embroiled in a nonsensical drama I had no intention of starting.
I don't have an obligation to take non-constructive comments.
I will delete negative comments that I don't like.
To those with gave me encouragement and thanks, THANK YOU, it made me learn that not everyone here was mean after all. All your comments made a huge difference to me.

ReplyDeleteYou are the type of novel fan translators hate, the guy who says thank you for the hard work but as soon as someone poaches a project forget about the amount of time and effort by the original translator. Translation is not a way to make a living, translator appreciate donations to make translating less of a burden, so when another translator poaches a project all that happens is the original says screw it. Why bother translating for unappreciative and disloyal fans that only care about when the next chapter is coming out. You good sir are a turd, it is a great shame to me and anyone who appreciates a translator to share the same hobby of reading light novels.
DeleteNo one here is saying Thyaerie's translation will be forgotten. He is going to continue on with the chapters. Many of us applaud him for his work and like it. This translator is no different from Thyaerie and therefore you are bias and need to open up your mind on the situation. They are both doing it for the interest of the readers so shut up and just stick to what you want to read.
DeleteHonestly I wish you would pick up a new series. There are so many untranslated series, we've seen lots of drama over translators fighting over one series. I would love more TDG chapters. But I think that for the community it's best to not try to divide it between translators for a single series.

i just dont want the same thing that happened to stellar transformation to happen to tales of demons and gods. literally months and several different translators to get to the current point. the story is good but everyone kept on taking others chapters to the point that everyone quit. currently it is good but the translation does have a history
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't do that honestly. I never thought of "competing" in any sense. If he catches up, I would have stopped or just jumped ahead 200 chapters from where I last ended. People might fight for profit, but I enjoy the story more so even if I were to earn from this, that would never happen. I don't see a point in fighting. It's such a waste of resources and energy.

Why wouldn't the multiple "poachers" work together then if they don't earn money anyway, what's the point in competing when it technically doesn't provide any benefits to yourself, other than a sense of accomplishment? Translating so far ahead is not really competition. Unless they do earn money, and have overlapping translations, then I do see a profit motive, and a reason to hate on them.

DeleteIf you had started from chapter 1 to translate TDG to give us a different take on the series i would have been far more willing to support your endevour, but even if you say so as things stand now it seems that you are just riding on the bandwagon Thyaeria made. If you're worked up about stealing credit/fame/money, we should be accusing Thyaeria for taking the opportunity away from the creator to translate the novel into English and build his own fanbase. Most authors dont mine because it increases attention to the project. The guy trabslating hachi-nan was also translating a work called black summoner, author found out sent a cease and desist and he stopped.

If you by chance have been inspired to do this by the trouble caused by ATG thing then i would say it's bad idea at least ATG guy had some valid points like Aly&co speed had drastically dropped +80$ for chaps etc etc compared to that Thyaeria is doing 1000 times better so it's pointless and i can't really read chinese so skipping 100 + chaps you are just teasing most of the people who can't read raw's so that's childish as well pls stop this nonsense if you got time to translate pick some other novel it will get you more positive comments as well as more money if you wish be sensible pls

DeleteI don't think people will confuse terms. Reading the chapters that she's posted so far, there's consistency in terminology. Also, IF there is a mix up, I would hope that people are smart enough to figure it out. Although, after reading some of these ridiculous responses, I'm not so confident in the intelligence of the TDG fanbase..
DeleteI would say don't let it get to you, the novel community is getting worse and worse every day as more people flock to this medium. Translators are now getting the leechers from the manga communities who want "more more and more" or just blind stupidity that want to be loyal to one person.

Delete1. Competing: I would never compete. I don't like translating enough to compete, plus my goal is the story, that's all.
2. Honeymoon phase: I made no promises, I will be an extremely erratic translator. Encouragement will spur me on, negativity slow me down, and RL will also play a role. Since I don't compete, I don't feel a need to hurry up or slow down. If I get pissed off I might just stop, etc. etc. etc.
3. Pride of ownership, very good point on this one. Thyaerie definitely has pride of ownership on this one. This might be one point that sticks with me. Conflicting thoughts: he is paid so how much does he care about this? is it so bad if an erratic translator translates very far ahead? he should take my chapters, just in case I delete at some point. He has my permission to simply credit me and take the chapters, does that make it better? I don't know....
so, after u saying this, I agree with u, unfortunately pride is a bad thing, for me it would be a lot more better if he sees what u are doing like a help and not a competition, so I only have fear that he becames pissed just because of pride and as u say that u will be a erratic translator( nothing against because I will wait for his translation get to the chapter 200 to read yours ) and we lose a constant and reliable translation of this novel that I love
DeleteI strongly hope you can continue translating this novel, although some one gets paid to do it, you do it for free! You're also doing it for your own good not because of a goal. There are a lot of us generally silent appreciators. That said it's going to be a long time before I actually read this since you started so far ahead, being selfish I'd love for you to translate something that isn't getting the attention it deserves. I've seen a 1 or 2 mentions of Genius Sword Immortal, I know you said you liked fantasy (so do I, it's my favorite genre) but you should check it out, I'm was hooked after 10 chapters and it never gets updated. Anyway, just keep doing whatever you want and ignore the idiots. Thank you.

ReplyDeletejust stop if it stressing you out, it is not your fault and the story is nothing special tbh, at least to me. there is also practically no reason for people to be mad at you since you are doing this for free (unless you are trying to ridicule him). also, i'm pretty sure you will stop translating once your exams are over (just like everything else we do when we are stressed before exams) and there is nothing to motivate you (eg, $)

The reason for asking for a different translation isn't that your translation would be bad, but it might be inconsistent with the terms used in the other translation. Also, I think that people would like it more if you translated something from the start (or whatever it was left as, if it was a dropped translation.) Again, if you really don't want to change what you translate, that is still okay.

It's not the first time this kind of things happened and projects got dropped altogether for nothing. ReplyDeleteI truly don't understand why some people translate novels that are already being translated, and that too only from chapter 150/200. If I could translate, I think I wouldn't feel satisfied with that and it would fell as if something is lacking. If you want to translate something there's always more demand than supply. I consider what you do is a waste of time as if I want spoilers, there's always a forum or something for them and reading from other translator would feel weird as I've already experienced what I'd like to call the "ST phenomenon".
I don't know what kind of "brutal feedback" you've got, nor do I care enough to check. I can only think that some people thought of those consequences I mentioned above and made the matter a bit more than what it is.
I honestly feel slightly sad that there are these kind of translators who, instead of helping with an ongoing project or taking their own project, are 'wasting' their time. But, in the end, it's not my business to poke my nose into. These ramblings are just my opinion.
Feel free to do what you wish, in the end, brutal or not, if you're set to do something you needn't care about the feedback. You could even opt to ignore feedback altogether, or do as the crack dealer guy did, as he personally managed the comments and only allowed positive feedback to show on his blog. With all due respect, I shall take my leave now.

DeleteWhile you think Thyaeria is paid, you have to realize he will be giving 3 free chapters a week. So even if noone donates, he still does translations.
ReplyDeleteAdditionally a translation is 4-5 hours of work, at less than 45 dollars is still not the most profitable thing.
What happened with stellar translation, is that because the series was poached so often, whenever it was poached by the newest person, the previous person would end up demoralized and stop. Because it changed so much the terms are all convoluted and messed up. Eventually the person who poached it would slow down and stop. Thus while we used to have a regular person who was consistent, we end up with no translators at all.
And that is why people are resistant to the idea of translation poaching.
It shouldn't even matter. It's his choice to translate and hers. If they both want to no one can deny them. I truly appreciate both of them for translating.All them haters just chillax and if you aren't happen go learn to read chinese =)

ReplyDeleteSo, I wasted time and went through some of these comments. It seems to me that people are most worried about Thyaeria stopping his translations. Because they can't form coherent arguments as to why you should stop, they resort to attacking your character, which is bull shit, but common on the internet. I mean, it's super easy to attack an "imaginary" person, right?
@Star's Wish - If translating makes you happy and is the type of mindless shit that you can take your mind off of stressful things, then continue. No one has the right to impede you. You should also take pleasure knowing that you make others happy. Some would argue that you agitate people, but if they are so petty as to be agitated by you translating this novel FOR FREE, you are NOT the cause of their unhappiness. They and their mindsets are the roots of their unhappiness and they will always find something to be pissed about. Fuck 'em.
You should know that I, for one, really enjoy your translations. I love TDG and I appreciate the work Thyaeria has done, but it's a lil' bit annoying having to read translations, shift through the copious amounts of grammatical mistakes, and piece together broken sentences all in order to know what's going on. Your translations are so much better, and reading your posts and comments, it's obvious you're fluent in English and intelligent. In others, you're a dope translator.
What you're doing should have no effect on Thyaeria's fan base, especially those voicing opposition. If they don't like it, they have the option to avoid it by NOT clicking. Those who worry about spoilers are voicing irrational fears. Those who worry about Thy stopping (and about a lack of a translator in the future) are ridiculous. Thyaeria has a monetary incentive to continue, which is why he builds up chapters and releases them one at a time. Thyaeria will continue to get donations and continue to post. You won't affect that (unless you pound out chapters 120-300 *wink, wink* :D).
My hope is that you'll continue translating and knock out some chapters in your free time. If you end up stopping, whatever, that's your decision. Regardless, remember that "haters gon' hate" simply to hate.
In conclusion, you do you and keep on keepin' on. I will continue voicing my support. Good luck on that prof. exam.

and next tiime remember that usually translator are :
1-taking a serie done by another team as a teaser or side project (with their OK)
2-finding a new one themself with website or manhua
3-retranslating some chapter wich they found badly translated

Come on people. It's all about the novel. Stop the hating these translators are doing this on their own. Both Thyaerie and StarWish are great people. They can do as they choose. Just be great full for them translating! I hope to see more projects from the both!

Every moron on this website saying the competition means more chapters is delluding themselves, all that will happen with poaching is translators get discouraged and stop translating. And when new or aspiring translators see poaching they will decide to just read ahead since they can to avoid the drama.
DeleteIf you don't like it, just play it as it doesn't exist. Simple enough there is no need to even argue.If they want to stop translating it's their choice. If you don't like it, than start learning to translate and do it yourself.

ReplyDeleteahahha.... I do do other activities to release stress. ;) I started translating cuz I was looking for something mindless to do, never looked to become a consistent translator. I recently released stress by deleting some comments I dislike, it feels sooo gooodd to do that. I have decided I am not obligated to take non-constructive comments like a distressed person. After all, I do have the ability to delete whatever makes me feel bad.

Im sorry to hear that happened. Altho im just a leecher who reads everything that comes out i do agree with u that Thyearia's translation isnt up to par with 45$ per chapter or even requires that much donation to begin with. But i appreciate his work nonetheless.

DeleteIf yes, then sure!! Personally, I wouldn't mind forming a whole large group of people who can do something like an open-source editing where you guys can discuss.
It will make it much easier for me, since i won't need to keep checking for consistency, nor worry too much about the fine line between elegance in English and faithfulness to the Chinese meaning. I can just mindlessly translate.
And I have a group of people to share the hate with :P
Keep in mind that I might be an erratic and whimsical translator tho, in terms of dedication to translating. XD
I doubt that they really "hate" you they're just afraid that they will lose a great story, and just like some people said if you pick up one of the many abandoned stories out there you will find much more positive reviews .

Nope, I actually hate self-entitled whiny scum like this. She is too stupid and narcissistic to understand that her behaviour is viewed by many as inappropriate and appears to simply enjoy attention. Fortunately she will give up soon as translating on a consistent basis is hard work, and we can go back to ignoring her.

DeleteYou have every right to translate TDG. But what you are doing is bad etiquette and you know it, ask anyone who hunts, if they notice another hunter eyeing a specific game most well mannered hunters will not steal the others prey. It is not about right and wrong, it is about respect.

Good translators are a rare breed, and for good stories like this, there's never enough translators. So, I'm still hoping she'll work with Thyaeria in the near future, because TDG can only benefit from having more translators working on it together.

ReplyDeleteI wish I could do what you do as in translate spectacular works of literary art into something tangible and readable but I can't so I thank you for doing this although I may not read it simply because it's way to far ahead of where I'm currently am since I refuse to read from machine translations I do applaud your efforts. with that being said now comes my selfish bit lmao there are so many good projects that have been dropped just in the last year that I have been reading WN LN etc. I just hope that you get a little more interested in some of them and help us out by picking up one of those cause that would just be awesome.

When a translator picks up a project a lot of the time they set the personal goal of finishing the novel for fans, by doing your translation you are interferring with that. That is perfectly fine and you have the right to do so but come on, you cant deny that even if it is unintentional you are competing. What happens when thyaeria reaches 200, if he does not use your translation then every chapter crazed fan will forget he ever existed and will focus solely on your site. Face reality in what way is that not competition. At that moment you will be forcing him to choose to either use your work which would hurt the pride of any translator or lose most of his readers. I' am not arguing for either side, whether you are right or wrong im just saying dont be naive, You are creating competition.

There's never enough translators, and people who volunteer for translating shouldn't be blamed. We can just hope they're open minded enough to work together.
Know the facts before saying stupid things, I am not blaming anyone I am just stating a fact, two translators not cooperating on the same project equals competition. And by the way this translator started translating knowing there was an active translator and asked to cooperate after her translation came out and there was a negative response. And before you go insulting people you might want to stop kissing this translators ass and realize that anyone can say anything, for not devoting too much time the speed of the translations has been pretty fast so far. If i say I am a dragon, does that make me a dragon, novyou imbecile. You are basing your point solely on her words rather than her actions, for all we know she might quit tomorrow, next week in a month, or in ten years but based on the sample size that exist currently the speed is fast for someone not devoting much time to it. So calm down buddy, I am not insulting this translator or crucifying her for poaching this project all I am saying is that constantly denying competition does not make it true, i did not even infer motive, in my post i said it could be intentional or unintentional i was staying neutral. The crazed chapter lunatics are just as aggressive and annoying as the crazed thyaeria lovers, god damn.

DeleteIt takes me roughly 1.5 hours to translate and do a once-over for half a chapter O.O And it's currently like my new pet toy, so I translate a few lines every once in a while. I wouldn't do a chapter a day, it'll become a chore at that point.

ReplyDeleteThere live a lot of golden goose in a certain rural but thriving farms (Much like a frontier), and these goose produce a lot of golden eggs, this eggs were called money/ducats/zeny you name it. And this farm has walls that has to be guarded by men with guns (The metaphor).
You are, in a way, another colonist who would like to survive using your own farm in the frontier, in time you produce another kind of eggs, taste almost the same from the previous mentioned farm, but kind of cheaper (Because you translate the parts where the fun begin) than the other one.
Now, position yourselves in their shoes, what would you do? Let them live and let live? Let them grow and become your future fierce rival? No, you shot them in the leg while they're still weak, and keep them down for eternity.
I hope you could understand the big picture here, you are, although not in the moment, could potentially disturb their honey pot. I suggest in the future, just like you said, this is a fan-translation, you are not in any way obligated to translate and/or produce a high quality translation in a certain timely manner. That's why if in the future you put a donation button, never even in your wildest dream to create a scheme to motivate people to donate furiously, because if you do that, you will be put in an obligation you hated in the first place. And because people wouldn't find a just cause if you do that.

DeleteUnfortunately, this farmer here is slightly irrational. I would recommend just staying out of this whole fray considering the drama is already over.
1. Annoying comments make me want to shoot the golden goose, and just let mine die. The commenters lose both geese. I technically don't lose anything. (since I can survive without the eggs)
2. Secondly, annoying comments make me think, why should I provide my golden eggs for free. If I want to be a whimsical translator who charges astronomical amounts of money, it's my choice.
