TDG 202: Master of the Dark Domain (1/2)

A moment after Nie Li's departure, Xiao Kuang and his group rushed over.

"Didn't you say that he reappeared? Where is he?" Xiao Kuang surveyed his surroundings, there was no longer any trace of Nie Li.

"Young Master Xiao Kuang, we wouldn't dare lie to you, he really appeared. If you don't believe, you can ask the people around these stalls!"

Very quickly, the guards got an affirmative answer, many people around this area did see him. Nie Li appeared here, but he left almost immediately.

At the thought of Nie Li's return from the dark spring, isn't the dark spring a deathtrap? They wouldn't dare enter that place, and have no idea what method Nie Li used to survive after lingering in there for so long. Since Nie Li is still alive, they can finally let go of the worry in their hearts. Their next step, is to move their tribe to Glory City.

Nie Li dashed through the forest, running like the wind.

Although he was only at the Gold Five-Star Rank, but now he has a Goddess protector to count on. This gave him a peace of mind.

Nie Li was not ready to return to Glory City, but the Divine Dessert Palace is still too far, the trip there and back will take too long. In the event that something happens to Glory City, he would not be able to rush back in time. Should he go take a look at the Dark Guild's hideout?

It would only be possible to confront the Dark Guild after ascertaining its location. As of right now, it is said that the Demon Lord is in an isolated training state, while Long Sha and Gui Sha are hurt. With Goddess Yu Yan's strength, there is now no longer any need to fear them.

According to rumors, the Dark Guild is located within an enormous underground world! Nie Li was full of curiosity as to how that place would be like.

Nie Li started sprinting in the direction of the place Ancestor Ye Yan described, onwards to the Dark Guild's hideout.

"Where are you going right now?" Goddess Yu Yan asks.

"To an underground world!" Nie Li then roughly explained the relationship between the Dark Guild and Glory City to Yu Yan.

After hearing his story, Goddess Yu Yan had an icy look on. "The demon beast threat is ever present, and extinction is a possibility, yet they have no qualms going against their own race and killing each other. This is preposterous! If I ever meet them, I will exterminate them with my own hands!"

Nie Li didn't anticipate that Goddess Yu Yan would resent the Dark Guild this much from his simple outline of the situation. What Nie Li doesn't know is that Goddess Yu Yan had a similar experience in the past. She was betrayed by the traitors of the human race, and as a result, she has absolutely no tolerance towards traitors!

The Demon Lords remains the biggest threat to Glory City.

With a full-power blow from the Ten-Thousand Devil Demon Arrangement, Nie Li only managed to injure Long Sha who is a follower of the Demon Lord. If the Demon Lord comes out from isolation, it is very possible that Glory City will be destroyed.

After meeting Goddess Yu Yan, Nie Li now understands...

If the Legendary Rank warriors of this world seek a breakthrough, the cultivation required is not in the strength of the Heaven's Way, it is in the Code. Within this world, there are few who manage to cultivate an inner state capable of comprehending the strength of the Heaven's Way. In his past life, Nie Li accidentally entered the space within the Book of Temporal Demon Spirit. Only then did Nie Li manage to gain a unique cultivation path.

The Book of the Temporal Demon Spirit, is not an item from this world!

The Demon Lord might actually be trying to break into the Spirit God realm right now. Once he reaches that rank, Glory City is equivalent to his!

Gradually entering the deep mountains, following the path depicted by Ancestor Ye Yan's map, Nie Li entered a cavern.

Following a deep, dark, and tight tunnel, walking into the deep. There were dark wet walls on all sides, this tunnel was manmade. Both human and demon beast bones were strewed across the floor. It can be seen that a violent fight took place here. The humans were fighting to retreat, they retreated into the deeps of the cavern.

Upon the arrival of the Age of Darkness, the humans from the main world were hunted down by demon beasts. At that time, the Spirit Gods who were guarding the Human Race were either killed or injured, no one cloud stop the Demon Beast Clan.

Nie Li initially thought that the endless massacres were brought about by the actions of the warriors of the Human Race who tried to surround and destroy the demon beast who ascended to the Legendary Rank. However, it can now be seen that there were deeper reasons behind their actions.

After following the long, narrow tunnel for roughly a thousand meters, Nie Li felt the light hint of a wall blocking him.  Someone placed a barrier here.

As Nie Li was contemplating how to break down the barrier, Goddess Yu Yan flew up and sat on his shoulders. At a wave of her right hand, that layer of the barrier dissolved.

"This type of low level barrier is useless when faced with the power of the Code," Goddess Yu Yan shakes her head.

At most, this barrier could have stopped a warrior of the Black Gold Rank, how could it stop Goddess Yu Yan who wields the power of the Code of Fire?

Nie Li shrugged, with Goddess Yu Yan's help, he was saved a lot of trouble. After walking for another thousand meters into the deep underground, a wide panorama emerged. An unparalleled large world appeared before Nie Li's eyes.

"This is.... the Dark Domain?" Goddess Yu Yan said, a cold shiver running through her heart.

Note:

Master of the Dark Domain : direct translation - Dark Domain Controller or Netherworld Controller

公子  : nobleman/young master/mister - an honorific used to address a young respected person (sometimes used in sarcasm too)

I will exercise discretion on when and how to translate honorifics to better fit the situation.

Side note: Glory City is starting to sound odd, so tempted to change it to Radiant City. (direct translation - City of Radiance)

On a side note, looks like Wish is using my suggestion of using Radiant City instead Radience City. Whoopeee.

  8. Constructive criticism, if you want you can delete this post, but before that please read it. You should've specified in the poll, Should i continue translating TDG? or "Should i continue translating in general?", when I first clicked on the poll i clicked yes, hoping you'll still continue doing some novel or whatnot. But just like some other people have said what you're doing at first is great you're releasing 10-20 chapters and then you'll quit and the original translators will feel totally demoralized. When they reach the 200 chapters, what will they feel like, doing double work that someone else has already released. And if they skip those chapters that you did, it will be like having gaps in their translation. Since you're new at this I doubt you understand how tiring it becomes over time, among the reasons why you'd continue would be gratitude from others for continuining to do what they love. Also if you really wanted to help Thyaeria, you could've offered to help her/him on the translation as part of his/her group. I read a little in one of your comments you said something about doing tdg together (as a joint project), but tell me who would want to do a joint project with someone that has no experience and isn't even serious about it, someone that has stated that they'll do this erratically, I personally wouldn't. I hope you understand my meaning, while what you're doing is all great releasing more chapters, but in the long run, you'll quit(which you already stated from the start) and then because of your releases the original translators will also quit. I hope you don't get demoralized by this post and continue translating (in general).

    1. Phew thats a wall of text if I've ever seen one. I'll try to organize your questions so the TL doesn't have to waste their time.

      1. The poll should have been idiot proof. Answer: I honestly didn't think about this, since it was completely obvious to me that it pertained to the series currently being translated. You are right though there are a whole lot of stupid people who probably didn't understand it.

      2. Assumption that this will demoralize the current translator, or if they skip however many chapters that StarWish does it will be like having a gap? Answer: First of all the current TL is getting tons of donations for his work, so the lack of motivation is pretty moot, especially considering Star has already said go ahead and TLC/Edit/Steal my work. It's basically free help on whatever chapters are done here. As far as gaps go, yeah I suppose if you aren't intelligent enough to navigate to more than one internet page it is unfortunate. 3. Offering to help the current translation. Answer: Try reading the posts, as it has already been said. apparently Thyaeria wants to work alone on this. Why are you making the assumption that Star requested a joint project (I'm assuming you by that you mean separate sites) and if you didn't assume that what exactly did you mean by helping?

Lastly my own perspective, you seem to be someone who is completely unmotivated, you list so many minor issues where you assume people would just give up, or get demoralized. Not everyone has such a lack of motivation.

(Someone can go ahead and point out any flaws in my arguments here the comment box is too small for me to go back and recheck everything.)

    1. So who can confirm, that this is not a fake email adress from one of the haters? Its easy to create email and do fake impersonation. Thyaeria I saw already talked before with Star, and he was okay with her translating, now magicaly somehow it is stated the opposite. Seems fishy to me! Dont get tricked! It seems like the fake email from a hater.

      Delete
    2. Look at the paypal gmail and compare if you want confirmation. :P

    3. Where can we check that out? I'm going to go ahead and believe you though and say thanks for the great work, especially the last few days.

      Delete
    4. Yes, Jason is right, email not fake. But even so, I remember reading comments here and I saw that Thyaeria is not opposing on this translation site, and after some time it changed somehow. That part seems not so smooth.

Well in a perfect situation if Star is not going to continue with this project, then I wish her to do a good other project, and also receive donations, doing translations of novels is very good thing for many people..

    1. Thyaeria says he gets happiness from seeing readers' comments on cliff hangers, so this isn't really going to work. I never considered it from that perspective.

He said he would quit and pass the project over to me if I wanted to continue. I never actually thought that would happen. This was never my intention.

But either way, I wouldn't test the truth of his statement. There will no longer be any TDG translations from me.

      Delete
    2. Told you, your actions have repercussions, and this goes for all the people here that encouraged her to continue with TDG. While what she's doing now is great for you (2-3 more chapters extra for now) but in the long run everyone loses because the original translator would rather quit than continue, which is normal. And Star's Wish already stated that she's not planning on being serious about this. So you fans, go ahead encourage her some more to continue with TDG.

Star's Wish I hope you don't take this comment badly, I hope you'll continue translating something different, there's a LOT of good novels. You also have the option of joining different groups and helping them out release faster. Taffygirl from Taffy translations does this often. She helps a few groups as a translator, and she also posts these chapters on her blog you can google her and find her easily.

      Delete
    3. Star I hope you wouldn't have considered it from that perspective, honestly I wouldn't have imagined that one of his reasons was liking watching people hate the cliffs. I love and appreciate the TL's but can't help but think its a sorry excuse and that he really wouldn't like to hand the TL's over considering he just moved over to WW and upped the sponsored chapters to 60$ each. GL on whatever you decide to TL next.

      Delete
    4. What repercussions? She has obviously been jumping through hoops this whole time to not offend anyone and the second she got a message from thyaeria she backed off and your acting like she was the one being rude? Keep your told you so to yourself!

      Delete
    5. To me, it didn't matter what reason or excuse he gave. The fact that he said he would quit, whether he meant it or not, was enough for me to decide to stop. Because even if he does it for profit, at least there are people who are willing to pay who get what they want. I cannot make that commitment.

If I earned $60 a chapter, I'd probably be a very efficient translator lol. I'm considering just assembling a group of non-stressful editors who have a project they want to take on, and translate for the heck of it. O.O or maybe I'll stop, depends on how soon I find something I like.

      Delete
    6. I respect that Star, it's a good attitude even if I think his reasoning is bogus. I even hesitate to say that because I really appreciate everything Thyaeria has done so far.

    7. If it gives you some perspective, my cousin worked part-time for a famous restaurant during the holidays in Singapore. He earned $7.15 an hour, and you don't tip in Singapore.

It takes me 1.5 hours to translate and edit half a chapter.

I would say yes, translating is like dipping a hole, and it gets tiring and annoying, but I would argue that it's still a good income source. The question is, how long can the $$, fan-love, story-love etc, motivate you to continue pumping out chapter after chapter. ;)

Regardless of reason, his dedication is admirable. I'll give him that.

      Delete
    8. As a chef? I sure hope not, that would really hammer home the different of our economic situation over here where we have so much money we don't know what to do with it. I can't comment on the hole digging part although I believe it, I try and read ahead sometimes but I am usually pretty lazy about my kanji flashcards. I guess it just depends on the personality, it does take dedication. I'd love to see you translate something else and get paid for it though, considering most TL's say it takes them 3+ hours per chapter I guess you could do it twice as fast :) thats nice for us leeches.

      Delete
    9. Yeah, he worked in the kitchen as an assistant chef or something. The only reason he took such a job was because it paid very well as it was in fine-dining. (high pay compared to other typical part time jobs such as working in retail stores).

I just asked him. He said $7.15/hour is considered high pay, $5.35/hour would be average. Some people do dig holes for a living, and personally I would much rather dig virtual holes at home on a computer compared to standing in a retail store.

My japanese is really really really bad lol. So is my French actually. So don't ask me to translate any of those.

Maybe I should start a translation group with lots of editors and make money from it. muahahaha lol Should I actually do that? O.O

      Delete
    10. Haha I'd rather dig virtual holes too, that's what I'm doing right now. Coding. I'd be pretty proud if I could say I wasn't that great with my 3rd and 4th languages, considering I only really know one, with a smidgen of chinese, japanese, greek and french. Yeah you should probably do that, I'm sure a lot of people would be psyched about it, though you probably only need one editor and a proofreader at most. I'm willing to edit if it's a series I like. It might not look like it considering my inebriated state but my English is pretty spectacular if I could brag about myself a little bit.

      Delete
    11. We should collaborate and earn $$. * evil smile* like your replies and sense of humor.

I would tell you which 3rd language I'm fluent in but that would be too telling. lol

Coding is not digging holes unless it's boring. Coding is like building a puzzle, it's quite fun. I'm so sad I only managed to take 1 coding class.

      Delete
    12. Too telling? What are you from a tri-lingual country or something? I doubt anyone here is smart enough to figure out any personal info from that. You haven't done enough coding then, it's fun if you are doing what you want to do but when it's a job it's just thousands of lines of no fun. I'm down for some collaboration, check out some WN's I have a feeling we have the same taste.

      Delete
    13. I grew up in a tri-lingual country, are there many trilingual countries? O.O Although I don't live there anymore.

Considering the way we talk, it is indeed likely that we have similar tastes in light novels. Except there is probably a requirement of some sort of romantic flair in the novel for me. lol

Any ideas? I like smart, overly power characters, humor is a plus, love interests are pluses too.

      Delete
    14. I don't think there are many tri-lingual countries but I doubt it would be easy to find a list of them. Except? Try again, I only read them if there is some element of romance. Smart MC is a must, Strong MC is a usually must, sometimes weak-to-strong works. They just can't let themselves get pushed around. Humor is a plus. The only one I can think of that is lacking a translation is GSI, that's why I was hoping there was a CN site you could check for ones not currently translated.

      Delete
    15. I need weak-to-strong to happen quickly. I don't like characters who are trampled on for too long.

There are SO MANY CN light novels in existence, the time investment required to read each one of them to find out if they are good is simply too high <--- hence why I read comics.

      Delete
    16. I agree the W-to-S needs to happen pretty fast, isn't there a CN site like novelupdates where you can check rankings of novels? Just look at the top ranked ones that don't have a tl yet, at most you should have to read a chapter or two and look at the tags to get a handle on it. Do you have a throwaway email for your blog? It would be easier to talk there, if not I'll give me you mine I'm just a little hesitant since this is a public forum.

    18. Fuck thyria 40$ per sponsored chapter and his que is backed up constantly you offer something for free and he is but hurt about it that's so shameful. He still has 80+ chapters before he hits the 200 and that's still over 3200$ I doubt he will walk from that

  11. That sucks that you are getting so much hate when you are being so considerate to thayeria and all the fans! So are you giving up translating altogether or do you have another series in mind?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well, the problem with me picking a new series is my process of reading a Chinese series to begin with:

      1. Reads random comic that looks interesting or simply has to-die-for art
      2. Get impatient at comic.
      3. Finishes novel and feels much better.

It is VERY difficult to find a new novel if a comic already exists. And although I am fluent in both languages, I am so much more comfortable reading in English that it doesn't make sense for me to start reading a Chinese novel of my own accord. I don't mind reading Chinese comics cuz some are pretty good and I don't have to invest to much time to find out if I like the story.

      Delete
    2. Well duhhh! Haha that is your problem the comic is nearly always worse than the novel, try it the other way around.

      Delete
    3. I get the time investment part though.

  12. Do you like any light novels that have been dropped? you can try looking through novelupdates.com. I'm sure you can find plenty that can catch your interest.

    Replies
    1. Almost every novel I like is taken lol... Maybe I should just assemble a group of editors, and translate whatever they like as long as I am interested in the story. If you leave me to myself, I'll leave it to luck.... (Maybe 5% chance of finding a new comic-novel that has been dropped.)

      Delete
    2. Aren't there any novels that no one has started yet? My Chinese isn't the greatest so I haven't looked at any CN websites but I would imagine that there are some good novels that aren't being translated. I'm still voting for GSI, someone released a chapter the day I recommended it so maybe a collab.

  13. how about translate the alchemist god? almost a month no update at https://unchainedtranslation.wordpress.com/

  14. Well thank you for translating as much as you have done. I'm happy to even get the slightest insight on how things will look like in the later chapters is a joy I can't express. I hope you the best results at what projects you choose to do later.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well I bet all them haters are happy now. Oh well, it was nice as it was going. I wish you the best!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Is there a possible chance that you can translate and email it to those who want it? And have a contract to not reveal to others online without your consent. It doesn't hurt to ask =D

    ReplyDelete
  17. Well, shit. Star's Wish, thanks for the dope translations. It was fun while it lasted. It's a bummer that Thy has threatened abandoning the project. That's a little shady in my opinion. I have a hard time understanding the personal joy being his motivation considering he asks for 60 bucks a chapter plus ad-click revenue from wuxiaworld... Hopefully, he will be motivated to release higher quality translations.

Star's Wish, good luck with whatever you decide to take on in the future. If you secretly want to continue translating TDG for a select few, let me know, haha ;).
